The 2018 Rheem Read-a-thon inspired by the DRHEEM TEAM is here!
The goal of the read-a-thon is 100% participation and the emphasis is on reading for fun! Our read-a-thon is Rheem’s annual literacy program that also raises funds for our school. Read-a-thon funds help pay for PTA enrichment programs and classroom aides.
During the next four weeks from January 18 – February 15, parents will record their student’s reading time online at https://goo.gl/forms/RvPPGBGPLmZ5jzZg2. (Look for a hyperlink in the PTA newsletter.)
Hours should be recorded every Thursday during the read-a-thon. If your family does not have access to a computer, teachers have copies of tally sheets that you can complete and return to your student’s teacher each Thursday.
All types of reading will count: silent reading, reading to others, or being read to by family or friends.
Money is raised through participation of sponsors who pledge support to a reader. Pledges can be made three ways: by the hour, by the hour with a cap, or a fixed donation. Sponsor sheets (enclosed) should be returned by March 30th. All students are encouraged to participate with or without pledges and all participants receive a special prize.
Participation simply means recording hours read and logging hours read online each week.
We have two school-wide school incentives to encourage reading:
• If 90% participation is reached by Week 2, students will earn a Crazy Hair Day!
• If 100% participation (or very close to it!) is reached by the end of the read-a-thon, Pajama Day will be earned on March 30!
